NEWS RELEASE – The Guelph Humane Society asks the community to keep turtles safe this season!

Guelph, ON (June 4, 2019) – The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) would like to remind motorists to “give turtles a break” this time of year.  Turtles are at the beginning of their egg-laying season, which will continue until early July. Females often will lay their eggs in the sandy, gravel shoulders along our roads, then while crossing the roadways they are at significant risk of injuries or death due to collisions with vehicles.

NEWS RELEASE – The Guelph Humane Society is preparing for a busy kitten season, despite COVID-19 closures

GUELPH, ON (April 30, 2020) – The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is preparing for another busy kitten this Spring, despite COVID-19 measures in our community. Every year, the humane society cares for approximately 400 kittens, many of whom are sick, injured, or orphaned.

NEWS RELEASE – The Guelph Humane Society is opening virtual and contactless pet adoptions

GUELPH, ON (April 16, 2020) – The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is pleased to re-open its pet adoptions with an adapted program. The process will be completely contactless, keeping adopters and staff safe during the COVID-19 outbreak, while also giving pets the chance at a loving new home.

NEWS RELEASE – The Guelph Humane Society is ensuring animals are safe and cared for while closed to the public

GUELPH, ON (March 24, 2020) – The Guelph Humane Society wants the community to know the animals in their care are safe and being well cared for during this pandemic.  With the help of volunteer foster homes, GHS has been able to place a majority of animals into foster care during this time of social distancing. Currently, GHS has 75 pets in foster care and 16 pets being cared for at 500 Wellington St. W.

COVID-19 UPDATE – March 16

As we continue to monitor this pandemic, we are taking the following steps to do our part to keep our community and animals safe:

We have implemented increase disinfection protocols throughout the humane society. Our staff are working hard to keep the animals well-cared, while also keeping public health as a top priority.

We have reduced our hours of operation.

GHS COVID-19 Update

A message from GHS regarding COVID-19:

GHS will remain open in order to continue providing vital services to the community. While subject to change, based on information coming from public health and other officials, services will continue as usual until further notice (with exceptions noted below). NEWS RELEASE – The Guelph Humane Society receives food donation from ROYAL CANIN® for the 105 cats

GUELPH, ON (February 20, 2020) – The Guelph Humane Society is grateful for a special donation from ROYAL CANIN® of adult wet and dry food including special veterinary diet food for all of the male cats that are in their care. This donation will support the 105 cats that were surrendered at the end of January.

NEWS RELEASE – The Guelph Humane Society places the first round of the 105 surrendered cats up for adoption

GUELPH, ON (February 7, 2019) – The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is excited to announce that the first round of cats from the 105 that were surrendered two weeks ago are now ready for adoption. GHS has been monitoring the cats since they were all brought into their care, and a few healthy cats have shown great progress adjusting to their new surroundings. This is the first of many rounds of these cats that will be ready for their new loving homes.

NEWS RELEASE – The Guelph Humane Society receives $75,000 grant from PetSmart Charities® of Canada towards new building campaign

February 4, 2020—GUELPH, ON – The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) received a $75,000 grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada, to support the Guelph Humane Society’s new building. Currently under construction at 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd, the new building is scheduled to be completed this Fall 2020.
