Construction has begun – Coming Fall 2020!
We are incredibly excited to announce that construction has begun and we are on schedule to complete our building project this Fall 2020!
Thanks to a transformational gift of $5 Million, generously given by Kim and Stu Lang, we broke ground in September 2019. The new building, to be located at 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd on the south end of Guelph, is a long awaited project for the Guelph Humane Society, that will have a huge impact on the lives of vulnerable animals in Guelph and Wellington County.
Fundraising is well underway, but we can’t do it without you!

It’s Time to EVOLVE
The Guelph Humane Society has operated out of the same location at 500 Wellington St W for more than 50 years. The building has begun to show its age, with the need for a new home becoming increasingly apparent.
Current animal shelter standards, together with our community’s increasing animal population, have caused us to outgrow the physical capacities of our aging facility. In recent years, we’ve had to use satellite locations and a network of foster care to continue to provide optimal environments for our animals.
A Renewed Vision For The Future
We are building a new facility that will provide compassionate care to animals, offer an innovative design, and have plenty of room for important education and outreach activities.
Despite the current condition of our building, we are still a safe place for stray and abused animals. We are confident we will create a more uplifting and invigorating space for our animals, staff and volunteers.
Our Future Home will:
- Be spacious and welcoming
- Have plenty of natural light and eco-friendly atmosphere
- Give visitors more space to interact with the animals in our care
- Include dedicated space for medical exams, training, grooming, intake of surrendered pets and injured wildlife, and education programs
- Provide lots of fresh air, with separate HVAC systems
- Have ample storage for food, bedding, toys, cleaning supplies
