GUELPH, ON (January 18, 2021) – The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is thrilled to receive a total donation amount of $10,000 from the City of Guelph’s official pet licensing partner, DocuPet. The full donation amount will be allocated to the construction of the new facility, located at 190 Hanlon Creek Boulevard. This gift was made possible by the designer licence tag purchases and direct donations made by residents from the City of Guelph, Guelph Eramosa Township, and the Township of Wellington North through the DocuPet pet licensing site.

“We are thankful for DocuPet’s support and donation, which is rooted in improving and enriching the lives of animals in need,” says Adrienne McBride, Executive Director at GHS. “Their investment in our capital project will mean that animals have a safe place to wait for their happy tail, a place which brings enrichment and joy to their lives while they are with us.”

One element of enrichment and joy will be the new building’s catio, a space for cats to explore the sights, smells and sounds of outside. It seems fitting, then, that DocuPet’s name will be recognized on a bench overlooking the catio at 190 Hanlon Creek Boulevard.

DocuPet provides a streamlined pet licensing service to residents through a simplified online experience. Each DocuPet licence is equipped with DocuPet’s complimentary HomeSafe™ 24/7 lost pet service, as well as an option to upgrade from a generic city licence tag, to a colorful designer license tag option. This designer tag line features over 160 unique tag styles that “help all pets” – 20% of the sales from DocuPet’s designer tag line is donated to GHS, and specifically to the new building, which will be a bright, spacious, and comfortable space for vulnerable animals in Guelph and Wellington County.

GHS cares for approximately 3,000 homeless, stray, injured and abused animals each year. The new facility in the south end of Guelph will feature indoor-outdoor access for dogs, spacious and calming cat enclosures, a dedicated small animal room, and more space for medical exams, training, grooming and education courses. Construction on the new facility is currently in the final stage, with an expected move-in date of early Spring 2021.

“We share a mission with DocuPet in providing safe and happy homes for all pets,” adds McBride. “Licensing your pet is required, but most residents don’t realize that their pets’ designer licences are making a positive impact in the lives of our shelter animals. Properly licensed pets will spend little or no time at our shelter, opening up that valuable space for the animals that truly need it.”

Licensing your cat and/or dog in Guelph is mandatory, and dog licences are also required in most municipalities. Residence who live in Guelph, Guelph Eramosa and Wellington North may license their pet online by visiting the DocuPet website (, or For other municipalities, visit the local website for information. Licences are required to be renewed annually to keep pet and owner information up to date.
