GUELPH, ON (August 2, 2016) – The Guelph Humane Society is seeking support from the public after an intake of approximately 60 small animals and birds into its care, including 20 rabbits (which includes one nursing mother and another confirmed pregnant), 5 hedgehogs, 2 chinchillas, 2 chickens, 20 button quail, and 11 coturnix quail. The Guelph Humane Society is asking the community for support to help care for these animals.

Each animal required immediate veterinary attention upon entering the Society’s care. Many of the animals will also require ongoing medical treatment to ensure their well-being. The Society estimates the total care for these animals will cost approximately $7,500.00. This intake comes at a time of year when resources are already stretched by the large number of kittens in the Society’s care and the amount of injured wildlife needing the Society’s support.

“We are so happy to be able to help these animals get a fresh start in life. It is the best part of the work that we do” says Adrienne McBride, Executive Director of the Guelph Humane Society. “However, as a charitable organization, we couldn’t help the animals without the generous support of our community.”
Community members wishing to help can make donations to help cover the cost of care, or donate much needed supplies such as pet store gift cards, shredded paper, hay or rabbit food. Community members may also consider becoming a foster home for the rabbits. For more information about how to help, contact the Society by phone at 519-824-3091, visit the facility at 500 Wellington Street West or click on the website www.guelphhumane.ca.

Once the animals receive all the necessary medical care and are old enough, they will be made available for adoption. The Society urges you to consider providing a forever home to one of these animals. In particular, the Society is looking for homes experienced with chickens or quails.
