Program launching June 2022.
Drawing on best practices of our Emergency Boarding and Pets in Transition Programs, GHS is expanding GHS Cares to reduce barriers experienced by area seniors requiring hospitalization, who also share a bond with a pet. Financial challenges and issues related to isolation can make accessing services difficult. This can cause seniors to not be able to access the services they need. Senior Support provides free boarding services in shelter or through confidential fostering for longer hospital stays. Collaborating with Elder Care Specialists at area hospitals as well as Social Service agencies, Senior Support will identify eligible seniors and help establish an appropriate pet care plan. Senior Support will also assist with rehoming a pet should a senior’s health and living situation no longer support reunification.
