Bird-Friendly Measures

About our building design background

About our building design

When designing our new building at 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd, we made sure to include bird-friendly features. Window collisions are one of the leading causes of bird deaths in Canada, killing 16-42 million birds a year.

Our bird-friendly design features at the new building include:

  • overhangs to create shadows on the glass around the building
  • reduced indoor and outdoor lighting at night to avoid collisions
  • plants and trees that support bird habitats and food supplies

GHS will be doing an assessment of our new home in preparation for the application of visual markers (specifically window films) on our large glass surfaces. These visual markers will further reduce the risk of bird strikes.
