Turn an investment into care for animals
An investment that has grown over time can become veterinary treatment, nourishing food, safe shelter, and a new beginning for an animal who has nowhere else to turn.
By donating eligible investments directly to the Guelph Humane Society, you can make a meaningful difference for animals while receiving potential tax benefits.
Help more of your gift reach animals
When eligible securities are transferred directly to GHS, you may be able to eliminate tax on the capital gain and receive an official donation receipt for their fair market value when they are received.
This benefit generally does not apply if you sell the securities first and then donate the proceeds.
Your gift can help provide:
- Veterinary assessment, treatment, and surgery
- Safe shelter, food, enrichment, and daily care
- Individualized support for animals recovering from illness, injury, or difficult circumstances
- The time each animal needs to take the next step toward home
Eligible gifts may include publicly traded stocks or shares, bonds, mutual fund units, and exchange-traded funds. Please contact us before beginning your gift so we can confirm that the securities can be accepted.
How to make your gift
1. Contact GHS
Before initiating the transfer, contact our giving team at give@guelphhumane.ca or 519-824-3091 ext. 6. We will provide the information you and your financial advisor need.
2. Complete the transfer form
Complete the GHS Gift of Securities Transfer Form and give it to your broker or financial advisor. The securities must be transferred directly to GHS rather than sold first.
3. Send a copy to GHS
Please send a copy of the completed form to GHS. Securities can arrive without the donor’s name, and notifying us helps ensure that we can identify and acknowledge your gift.
4. Receive your tax receipt
Once the securities have been received, GHS will issue an official donation receipt for their fair market value on the date of receipt, in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency requirements.
Planning a year-end gift?
Transfers can take several business days or longer. Please begin the process well before December 31 to help ensure your securities are received within the current tax year.
