Every animal who comes through our doors has their own story, personality and needs. That’s why our adoption process is designed to carefully match each animal with the home that’s right for them, helping set both you and your new companion up for success.

The best way to get to know our adoptable animals is by visiting the shelter or browsing their profiles online.
In-shelter Animal Viewing Hours
Tuesday to Friday
1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Saturday
11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
During your visit, you can:
- Meet our adoptable cats.
- View dogs, rabbits and small animals.
- Speak with our team and learn more about the animals in our care.
Please note: Meet and greets with dogs are scheduled by appointment after you’ve submitted an application and spoken with our Adoptions team.
Our Adoption Process
Our adoption process is designed to create thoughtful matches that help both people and pets thrive together.
Step 1
Browse Our Adoptable Animals
Start by exploring the animals currently looking for a home. You can browse online, visit the shelter during viewing hours, or meet some of our adoptable animals at one of our satellite adoption locations.
Each animal’s profile includes information about their personality, needs and the type of home they’re looking for.
Step 2
Submit an Application
Found a pet you’d like to learn more about? Click ‘Adopt Me‘ button on the profile of the pet you are looking to adopt and complete the online application.
Submitting an application is the first step in helping us get to know you, your home and the type of companion you’re looking for. It helps us find the best possible match for both you and the animal. There’s no fee to apply, and submitting an application doesn’t commit you to adopting.
Please note: email notifications are sent to all who have applied, regardless of being a match. Be sure to check your junk or spam folder regularly to ensure messages are not missed.
Step 3
Let’s Get to Know Each Other
If your application is selected for the next step in the adoption process, you’ll receive an email from a member of our Adoptions Team inviting you to schedule a phone conversation. During the call, we’ll answer your questions, learn more about your home and lifestyle, and talk about the animal you’re interested in. Together, we’ll explore whether it’s the right fit for both you and the animal.
Step 4
Meet Your Potential New Companion
This is often everyone’s favourite part.
Depending on the animal, we’ll arrange the best way for you to spend time together.
Dogs
We’ll schedule a meet and greet so you, and any members of your household, can get to know each another. If you already have a dog at home, we’ll also arrange a dog-to-dog introduction.
Cats
Visit our cat room during Animal Viewing Hours to meet our adoptable cats. If you’ve already completed the adoption process for a specific cat, we may also arrange a private appointment.
Small Animals
Our team will introduce you to the rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas and other small animals in our care and help you find the right companion.
Welcome Home
Congratulations! Once everything is complete, it’s time to welcome your new companion home.
Our support doesn’t end on adoption day. We’ll check in to see how things are going, and our team is always here if you have questions or need advice as you and your new pet settle in together.
If you need a little extra support, our Behaviour Coordinator is also available to help with more complex behaviour questions and provide guidance to help you and your pet adjust and thrive together.
