Farm to Home helps friendly, social cats and kittens living on farms or rural properties move into homes where they can thrive as companion animals.
Through the program, the Guelph Humane Society (GHS) provides eligible cats with veterinary care, spaying or neutering and support preparing for adoption. The surrender fee is waived for cats accepted into Farm to Home.
Could Farm to Home Be Right for Your Cats?
Farm to Home may be suitable for cats or kittens who:
- Live on a farm or rural property
- Are friendly and comfortable interacting with people
- May adjust well to living in a home
- Need help finding a suitable adoptive family
Cats do not need to have lived indoors to be considered. GHS may also be able to accept multiple cats or a litter of kittens, depending on their needs and our current capacity.

If you are uncertain whether a cat may be comfortable living as a companion animal, contact our Intake team and share what you have observed. We will help determine whether the program may be appropriate.

How to Access Farm to Home
Call 519-824-3091 or email intake@guelphhumane.ca. Be prepared to tell us about:
- The number and approximate ages of the cats
- Their health and any known medical needs
- Their behaviour and comfort around people
- Their current living environment
- Any care they are currently receiving
Photos may also help our team understand the cats and their circumstances.
Our Intake team will determine whether the cats may be suited to Farm to Home and explain the next steps. Acceptance depends on the cats’ individual needs and GHS’s available space and resources.
All intakes are arranged by appointment. Please do not bring cats or kittens to GHS without a confirmed appointment.
What GHS Provides
For cats accepted through Farm to Home, GHS will:
- Waive the surrender fee
- Provide a veterinary assessment and necessary care
- Spay or neuter the cat
- Provide vaccinations and other routine care as appropriate
- Help prepare the cat for adoption
- Find an appropriate adoptive home
Once a cat is surrendered, ownership transfers to GHS and the general GHS surrender policies apply.
Why Farm to Home Matters
Friendly cats living on farms may be well suited to life as companion animals but may not otherwise have a clear path to an adoptive home.
Farm to Home gives these cats that opportunity while ensuring they are spayed or neutered. This helps prevent unplanned litters and supports healthier cat populations in rural communities.
