Charting Our Future Direction

The Guelph Humane Society’s 2024–2027 Strategic Plan provides a shared direction for responding to those needs, strengthening our organization and building a more compassionate community.

The plan focuses our work on advancing animal welfare, building a healthy and sustainable organization and bringing people together to create meaningful change.

Built With Our Community

The plan was developed with input from GHS staff, volunteers, donors, community partners, residents and members of our Board. Their perspectives helped us understand changing community needs, build on our strengths, and identify where GHS can make the greatest difference.

Our Strategic Priorities

1. Advance Animal Welfare

GHS will advance animal welfare through direct care and by responding to the changing needs of animals and people in our community.

Our areas of focus include:

  • Strengthening the quality of our programs, services and animal-care practices
  • Developing solutions to emerging needs and making support more accessible through partnerships
  • Advancing wildlife welfare
  • Promoting the benefits of strong human–animal connections and sharing knowledge that helps people support animal welfare

2. Drive Organizational Growth and Strength

Strong programs and services depend on a healthy, sustainable organization and people who feel supported in their work.

Our areas of focus include:

  • Strengthening financial sustainability through responsible planning and more diverse sources of revenue
  • Investing in staff and volunteer engagement, learning and well-being
  • Improving organizational efficiency and digital capacity
  • Advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, truth and reconciliation while building a Board, staff team and volunteer community that better reflect the communities we serve

3. Build Community

Lasting change happens when people and organizations work together around shared values and goals.

Our areas of focus include:

  • Strengthening existing partnerships and developing new relationships
  • Creating collaborative solutions for animal-welfare programs and services
  • Listening to our communities, increasing awareness and sharing animal-welfare knowledge
  • Expanding the use of the GHS facility as a community animal welfare resource

Following Our Progress

The Strategic Plan guides GHS priorities, decisions and investments through 2027. Our Impact Reports share the animals, people, programs and outcomes behind our work, while our audited financial statements provide information about how we manage the resources entrusted to us.

Looking Ahead

Together, these priorities are helping GHS respond to changing needs today while building a stronger future for animal welfare in our community. As we continue through 2027, we will keep listening, learning and working with our community to bring hope, care and compassion to animals and the people who care for them.
