GUELPH, ON (February 16, 2024) – The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is pleased to announce that close to 600 cats and kittens were able to find their happy tails in 2023 thanks to a $40,000 PetSmart Charities of Canada grant.

Funding from the PetSmart Charities Adoption Prep grant helped to offset cat and kitten-care related costs which spike in the spring and summer each year.

“Kitten season is a busy time for every shelter environment,” says Lisa Veit, GHS’s Executive Director. “This generous grant from PetSmart Charities of Canada allowed GHS to invest in some key areas to help more cats and kittens get adopted successfully.”

The investment into feline health supported 598 spay/neuter surgeries, 598 adoptions and approximately 1,200 vaccinations.

On top of helping vulnerable animals from Guelph and Wellington County, the grant also allowed GHS to offer rehoming services to benefit indigenous communities in Southwestern Ontario through its partnership with the Ontario Veterinary College’s Community Healthcare Partnership Program, which offers regular veterinary wellness services in these communities.

“It is granting opportunities like this that greatly help improve the health and welfare of vulnerable animals in need,” says Veit. “We are extremely grateful to PetSmart Charities of Canada for their support of our adoption program.”
