From the moment we go live at 7pm on November 4th, our audience will be transported right into our theme: there’s no place like home. A yellow brick road and the Guelph Symphony Orchestra playing music from “The Wizard of Oz” will help set the tone for the evening ahead.

Host Kim MacDonald will introduce our different segments, artists and special guests throughout the two-hour television event. Check out just some of the exciting things we have planned.

Our Variety Show will be LIVE from our new building at 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd. Since we haven’t yet been able to fully open to the public, this will give our community an opportunity to see inside some of our more interesting areas. Sponsored by Royal Canin, the building tour will include segments like:

• How do adoptions at GHS work? A look inside our Adoption Rooms.
• The innovation behind the building: a look at the design of 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd.
• Nutrition – DIY pet treats, from inside our meal prep kitchen
• How to trim your cat or dog’s nails, from inside our grooming room
• A sneak-peak at GHS holiday swag and gifts (calendars, an exclusive holiday ornament, new clothing)
• A look inside our farm animal room

“There’s no place like home” is true for the animals in our care. They all want to find their #HappyTails! But that line was made famous by Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz. The music from The Wizard of Oz is so iconic, we just couldn’t do a television program without featuring some of the songs! Our musical acts throughout the evening will include:

• Guelph Symphony Orchestra, performing various songs from the “The Wizard of Oz”
• Dancers from Emotion Dance Company, performing to a hit, upbeat song from “The Wizard of Oz”
• Singer-songwriter Kat Steeves, singing and playing the ukulele to a soulful rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”

The animals in our care will be the big stars of the show…and we expect nothing less! While we will feature different animals throughout the evening, here are some of the segments we are working on for you:

• A day in the life of cats and dogs in our care – what does a typical day look like for them?
• Nutrition – DIY pet treats
• How to trim your cat or dog’s nails
• An inside look at the Guelph Police K9 Unit
• Top holiday pet items, from Ren’s Pets
• Seeing GHS alums, and hearing from past adopters

Tickets for our There’s No Place Like Home 50/50 Lottery, sponsored by Sleeman Breweries, can be purchased online (or in person) from October 1, 2021 until 8:30pm on November 4, 2021.

Tune into the Variety Show to see the winning grand prize ticket get drawn before the show ends at 9pm! The winner will be announced live on the air. The winner of the GHS 50/50 Spring lottery took home over $43,000. Will the next winner be you?

Of course, the big winner is always the animals. They benefit from the proceeds of the lottery!
