Olive in care

Olive’ Story: The Impact of Giving 

Olive is a young, little dog that arrived at the Guelph Humane Society (GHS) this past August.  She was found alone, outside on the side of a country road.  She was very thin and covered in burrs.  

Her coat was dull and unkempt. But what was most alarming about Olive’s condition were the growths on her face.  She had them inside of her mouth and clusters on her lips and all around her upper and lower jaw.

GHS Annual Open House happening Saturday, December 3

The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) opens its doors this weekend for its annual open house.

The open house will run from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm at the GHS’s new location at 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd. in Guelph.

Cookie’s Story: One Happy Tail (tale)

Cookie, a Bernese Mountain puppy, came into the care of the Guelph Humane Society (GHS) in January 2022. She required emergency high-risk surgery because a swallowed toothpick had penetrated her abdominal wall causing a lot of damage.

If Cookie could survive the first few days after surgery, her chances at life would increase significantly. Cookie’s veterinary care was only possible because of GHS supporters and paid for entirely with donor dollars.

The team at Guelph Humane Society was hoping for her to make a full recovery, and thankfully, she did.

Guelph Humane Society to host in-person Home for the Holidays Adoption Event

GUELPH, ON (November 21, 2022) – The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is set to hold an in-person adoption event on Friday, November 25 and Saturday, November 26 with the goal to send as many animals “home for the holidays” as possible.

GHS currently has more than 170 animals in its care — many of which are ready for adoption.

“We always work hard to match animals with their new families and send them on their happy tail,” says Lisa Veit, GHS’s Executive Director. “This is especially true during the holiday season, as it is a heart-warming time of year to see animals heading to their new home.”

Guelph Humane Society’s Happy Tails Gala raises more than $180,000

GUELPH, ON (November 9, 2022) Guelph Humane Society’s (GHS) A Hop through Wonderland Happy Tails Gala, returned on November 5 after a three-year hiatus. The event raised more than $180,000.

Proceeds from the gala will help fund critical veterinary care, shelter, food and life’s necessities for homeless and neglected animals in Guelph and Wellington County.

15 Guinea pigs found abandoned in Wellington County 

GUELPH, ON (October 27, 2022) Last week 15 Guinea pigs, one male and 14 females, mostly juveniles, were found in two cages which appeared to be abandoned in Mapleton township. Two Guinea pigs were in one cage and 13 were in the other. Each cage was only two and half feet long, too small to properly house one Guinea pig. The cages were in deplorable condition, covered in urine and feces with a strong odor of ammonia.

This is why the Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is hosting a fall Microchip Clinic on Saturday, September 24 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at its new location at 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd. — to help ensure lost Guelph and Wellington County pets are returned home as quickly as possible.
