GUELPH, ON (March 5, 2021) – The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is moving to their new location at 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd. this weekend, and you can join this historic moment by helping to close the gap on the new building’s fundraising goal. While GHS is on the move, your donations to the building will have double the impact with the “On the Move” Match, sponsored by B.A.P. Heating and Cooling Services.
For every dollar donated during the move (March 5-7), B.A.P Heating and Cooling Services will MATCH donations, up to a total of $1,500.
“We are still about $2 million short of our fundraising goals for the new building,” says Adrienne McBride, Executive Director of GHS. “That’s a big gap to close, but thanks to this match campaign, someone’s $10 donation becomes $20. Someone’s $50 gift becomes $100. And together, as a community, I know we can get there.”
Paul Palmer is the owner of B.A.P. Heating and Cooling Services, sponsors of this match campaign.
“As a small, family run business, our priority is taking care of our customers and their families. Ensuring all families, including our four-legged family members, have a warm, happy home,” says Palmer. “The Guelph Humane Society is such an important organization in our community, and we are thrilled to support them in their move that will allow for the care of even more animals.”
McBride adds that the new facility at 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd. is so much than just a typical animal shelter. It is a community animal centre, with endless possibilities for expanding animal services in Guelph and Wellington County.
“From our research, we believe we will be the only humane society in the province that has a dedicated space for farm animals right in the building,” says McBride. “We have also added a dog quarantine area that will allow us to bring in dogs from Northern Ontario, for example. It is really important that our community continues to support this new building, so that we can continue expanding our services.”
These services will not only help animals in need, but also individuals in the community. GHS is hoping to expand programs like Pets in Transition (PIT), which helps victims of domestic violence who are too worried about their pets to leave their abuser.
PIT offers extended, confidential foster care for pets so individuals can transition to violence-free, healthy lives. The PIT program also offers foster care for the pets of clients of the Canadian Mental Health Association Waterloo Wellington who are hospitalized for mental health or addiction.
