Thank you for your support of the Guelph Humane Society, and the animals that we protect. In March, we asked you to reach out to your MPP to let them know how important it is that animals in Guelph and Wellington County continued to be protected, despite the OSPCA’s withdrawal from enforcement. We are happy to share that your voice was heard – you were the voice for the animals, who have no one else.

The Ontario Government has proposed an amendment to the Ontario SPCA Act (Bill 117), which if passed, would enable our organization to continue the enforcement work we are already doing to protect animals in Guelph and Wellington County. This temporary legislative measure will keep animals safe in the interim, while a more robust, transparent and accountable animal protection system can be developed for Ontario. This is what you asked for!

The Guelph Humane Society willingly stepped forward to offer our assistance, as the Province works towards a new, permanent, enforcement model. We remain committed to protecting the animals in our community and are working with the Minister’s office to make sure no animals fall through the cracks. Thank you for making a difference, your advocacy and support are vital to our work and to ensuring that all animals in our community are safe.

The Ontario government has also launched a public survey regarding the future of animal protection in Ontario. Please provide your feedback and help ensure the best possible system is in place to protect animals. The deadline is Thursday June 6thClick Here

We are closely monitoring Bill 117 and will be providing additional updates when we know more.

Sincerely,

ADRIENNE McBRIDE
executive director
